I have been thinking about the exposure that my children have to truly wonderful people. Yet, I am certain that "Truly wonderful and admirable" are different concepts to me than to others. Here are the characteristics of people who I find admirable.
Kindness and compassion
Putting others first
People who buy little, own little and who are the wealthiest in contentment
People who don't follow fads
People who share, give and donate without telling or announcing it for recognition
Modesty
People who use the Golden Rule
Someone who stands up for others
Someone who has never said the words, "It happened to me, so it is only fair that it should happen to you too."
Hard working
Dependable
People who use their words for comfort and support and not judgement and abuse
People who don't pout and hide their feelings as a way to punish those around them
People who protect the earth
People who take care of themselves mentally, physically, spiritually, and socially
People who open doors for others
People who put their grocery cart back, even when it is cold
People who pay back money they have borrowed
People who don't take from others who are less fortunate
People who forgive
People who understand we have all hurt, and lost and are empathetic to those still hurting from it
People who put their family and children first
People who take accountability for their mistakes
People who respect all others
People who can love without reward
So many more, but these are some that I have been thinking about. I hope that my children surround themselves with people like this during their lives. I also hope that I may become more like these people, that I may someday be admirable to my children.
"I love people who have been through adversity and heartache and obstacles as impossible as the sun itself. They usually make it out with hearts as warm as gold. Cores made of fire. Lives soaked with full intention. Hope like another morning. They know how to start again- how to walk through walls with palms wide open, and how to begin at the edge, and end. Those to me, are the best people." ~Victoria Erickson
